Help Proclaim Pollinator Week
Dear Vermont Beekeepers,
Many states require that one of their citizens request that events such as National Pollinator Week be officially proclaimed. Thanks to wonderful citizens like you, in 2012 thirty-eight states officially declared Pollinator Week!
Vermont still needs to “proclaim” National Pollinator week, and with your help we can increase the awareness, understanding, and importance of honeybees and other pollinators across the nation.
Please take a moment to contact Governor Peter Shumlin with the information below. Your effort will make National Pollinator Week 2013 a great success!
Suggested Script for Contacting the Governor's Office:
WHEREAS, pollinator species such as birds and insects are essential partners of farmers and ranchers in producing much of our food supply; and
WHEREAS, pollination plays a vital role in the health of our national forests and grasslands, which provide forage, fish and wildlife, timber, water, mineral resources, and recreational opportunities as well as enhanced economic development opportunities for communities; and
WHEREAS, pollinator species provide significant environmental benefits that are necessary for maintaining healthy, biodiverse ecosystems; and
WHEREAS, the State of Vermont has managed wildlife habitats and public lands such as Vermont forests and grasslands for decades; and
WHEREAS, the State of Vermont provides producers with conservation assistance to promote wise conservation stewardship, including the protection and maintenance of pollinators and their habitats on working lands and wildlands; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Governor Shumlin, Governor of the State of Vermont, do hereby proclaim the week of June 17-23, 2013 as
Vermont Pollinator Week
throughout the State of Vermont, and urge all citizens to recognize this observance.
