Vermont State Apiculturalist Steve Parise wanted to pass along an update to the recent spraying for mosquitoes that took place last Thursday and Friday nights in the Brandon and Whiting areas of Vermont. He writes:
I was in the Brandon area on Friday, and the Whiting area on Saturday. I looked at bee yards in or near both spray areas and observed no unusual bee activity or mortality.
Alan Graham, our entomologist was also in the spray areas on Friday and Saturday looking at insects foraging on goldenrod. He observed a good diversity of bees, wasps and ants, including bumblebees, as well as three species of butterflies. In his words, “Things looked very good”.
